Will you coach your boss this week?

Does this sound like you? You’ve been reading leadership and self-improvement books for years. Going to classes and knocking yourself out to be better, think at a higher level, work hard, and bring value to your organization. Your boss, on the other hand, is old school. They haven’t read a book since they started in management 20 years ago and use leadership techniques that even people from the 70’s would find antiquated. Here’s some things to remember:
You stink at some tasks. We ALL do. Stop thinking that you are expected to be good at everything and start learning to delegate and collaborate with others on your team. As a leader or manager, your job is to make sure the job gets done and done properly. That doesn’t mean it always has to be done by you.
Stop holding everything inside and thinking that people can read your mind. Start having conversations that move people and projects forward based on the current reality of the situation you are faced with.
Continue believing in yourself, your strengths and gifts, and the strengths of others on your team. Start celebrating even small successes you and your team have. Stop thinking that a short, passing phrase once every few months is enough to motivate and engage yourself or others.
